Pontianak – Stabil condition is needed in the regions and sub-regions, so it would not raise so as not to cause deeper turmoil that will affect the global economy considering the global condition development nowadays that is still surmounted by the multi-dimensional crisis as the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, sharpened geopolitics conflict, energy and food crisis, and climate change.

 

 The statement was stated by the Deputy Minister for Coordination of International Economic Cooperation, Edi Prio Pambudi as the Chair Senior Official of BIMP-EAGA.

 

“In order to keep the regional stability and competitiveness, BIMP-EAGA needs to be more proactive amidst the architectural dynamics of the Indo-Pacific region,” he explained when he led the 30th Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) held in Pontianak, West Kalimantan.

 

 

Indonesia gets the chairmanship of BIMP-EAGA from Philippines and becomes the chairman for 2022-2023 by carrying the theme “Support Competitiveness and Climate Resilience”.

  

The reason is that some issues are needed to get more attention in the sub-regional, such as food and energy resilience through connectivity strengthening.

 

Furthermore, Deputy Edi also stated that BIMP-EAGA also needs to improve the cooperation among sub-regionals, such as Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) and Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) in order to increase the role of ASEAN in regional architecture.
